MEET THE FOUNDER LARITA NICOLSON
Larita Nicolson (Tian Jin) founded Journey Chinese in 2018 to help Australian’s learn Chinese with ease.
Larita’s deep experience in language and practical teaching methods is why she’s a highly sort-after tutor and regarded expert in Chinese culture.
Growing up in Kunming, Yunnan China, she now lives in Brisbane, Queensland alongside her husband Lachlan and their dog Frasier.

JUN 2018 — Journey Chinese BEGAN
Larita started Journey Chinese as a tutoring business from her apartment in South Bank Brisbane.
MAR 2021 — ONLINE ONLY TUTORING
During COVID-19, Larita switched to tutoring clients online and more people joined across Australia.
NOV 2024 - EXPANSION OF SERVICES
Journey Chinese expands beyond tutoring, with new travel content and online resources.
JAN 2025 - 1st CHINESE TEA EVENT
We hosted our live first culture experience: Chinese Tea Night in Brisbane. It sold out with raving reviews.
OCT 2025 - WENDY WU AS TOURS PARTNER
We partnered with Wendy Wu, Australia’s #1 tour operator for China, to encourage more Aussies to discover China for the 1st time.
JAN 2026 - ONLINE SCHOOL LAUNCH
Our team is working hard to develop Australia’s best online mandarin school for all ages.
